It’s a common enough line that you hear around this time of year: why do you call it Good Friday when Jesus died on a cross?
On one level, not a stupid question. How can the death of the founder of your religion in any way qualify as good? It certainly doesn’t seem good on the face of it.
Yet, if you understand even the most basic stuff about the Christian faith, you would know that at its centre is a Christ who died on a cross. If you don’t understand the cross, you will understand literally nothing about who Jesus is, why he came, what he achieved, what Christians believe and the difference it makes to them. The cross is right at the heart of the faith, it’s not just a piece of jewellery people wear.
So, why do we call it Good Friday? Check out the post below which lays out four reasons why we can genuinely call this Friday ‘good’.
