Why Good Friday still remains good

Every year, someone asks: What’s so good about Good Friday? It’s the day Jesus died—how can that be good?

But here’s the truth: Good Friday is not a tragedy. It is a triumph. It’s not just another dark moment in history – it changes everything. Here’s why:

Sin Paid in Full

We all owe a debt we cannot pay – our sin puts us under the righteous wrath of God and we have no credit in our account. But on Good Friday, Jesus paid the price in full.

Jesus bore the wrath of God so we don’t have to. No more guilt. No more condemnation. The punishment that should have been ours? Paid. Settled. Finished.

Death, Defeated

Sin’s wages? Death. That’s the price. But Jesus took that wage upon himself so that we might receive the gift of eternal life instead.

At the cross, where sin was defeated, death was swallowed up in victory. Because Jesus rose again, death no longer has the final word. The grave isn’t the end. We have hope beyond this life.

Satan Bound

Satan is real. Not some cartoon villain with a pitchfork – he is the enemy, seeking to destroy. But on Good Friday, his power was shattered.

By his death, Jesus broke the power of the one who holds the power of death – that is, the devil. The war is won. The stronghold is broken. The victory belongs to Christ.

Freedom Won

We were slaves – bound by sin, ruled by death. But Good Friday secured our freedom. Jesus broke the chains, tore down the walls, and declared: you are free. And if the Son sets you free, you are free indeed.

No more fear of death. No more bondage to sin. We stand victorious – not because of what we have done, but because of what Christ has won.

Good Friday is good because it is finished. The work is complete, the price is paid, the victory won. And because of that, everything changes.

Good Friday is good – not simply because Jesus died, but because by it death itself was defeated. For those who trust in Jesus, our sin is not counted against us, death is not the end and we can now live to enjoy God and anticipate a glorious future with Jesus.

And that changes everything.
