Following the release of my new book Independent Eldership, Grace Publications have been publishing adapted segments of the opening chapter. The latest one can be found by clicking the embedded link below.
This time, they have shared a section on what is meant by Independent Eldership. The segment argues that Independency, specifically congregationalism, is more fundamental to the existence of legitimate churches than elders. That is not to say elders are unimportant or aren’t necessary for a healthy church – I have, after all, just written an entire book about them! But it is to say the congregation is more important to the existence and fundamental operation of a church than elders.
You will have to click the link to find out how and why I draw that conclusion. I suspect you will, even after reading it, have to buy the book to understand the proper and fulsome case for that, as well as how elders are to then operate and what position they hold within the church given this understanding.
Have a read, see what you think. You may find it raises more questions than answers for you, but that should drive you to the book – which you can get at Grace Publications, Amazon or Day One as you prefer.
