Unity apart from the gospel isn’t worth uniting over

We have been continuing our series in Acts. This week we considered the episode in which Paul and Barnabas separate from one another, asking the question: is it ever right to separate? You can hear the whole sermon here.

We focused on what our priorities ought to be in the church. One priority, for example, is our unity as God’s people. However, is this our highest priority? If the God’s glory and the advance of his gospel are higher priorities, this will lead us to understand that there cannot be unity at all costs.

A unity at all costs approach will lead us into the worst kind of pragmatism that may well see us departing the gospel altogether. There will be times, for the sake of preserving the gospel itself and remaining faithful to Christ, it is and act of sin not to separate.

Listen to how this happens in the short clip below.
