Here is William Lane Craig discussing the difference between deductive and inductive reasoning. Both are valid forms of argument, both are useful and have a place – particularly in Christian apologetics – but both are quite different.
One seeks to prove a conclusion logically and necessarily while the other seeks to show that a given observation or premise makes a conclusion more likely than not. One is making logical inferences that necessarily follow while the other is offering observations that function as evidence towards a particular conclusion.
