Following the release of my new book Independent Eldership, Grace Publications have been publishing adapted segments of the opening chapter. The latest one can be found by clicking the embedded link below.
This time they have shared a segment on the position elders hold in the church. Whilst I suspect we all instinctively know elders are leaders, in what way do they actually lead? Are elders the highest authority in the church? If not, who is? If they’re not, how do they lead? Is it possible to have real authority without having ultimate rule?
This one touches (albeit only briefly) on the issue of who rules and who leads, whose authority is ultimate and where it derives from. It doesn’t answer all these questions in great detail, but begins to trace an answer – you will inevitably need to buy the book to get the whole case on which it is based.
