In the wake of the death of John MacArthur, there has been a lot of this kind of talk floating around. The old implication that here is a particularly good and faithful servant seems to be trotted out liberally. And so, I thought I would reacquaint us with this post again – one in which I speak about who, exactly, is a good and faithful servant and who will get to hear that commendation.
I have no intention of weighing in on the specifics of John MacArthur’s ministry. I am not going to offer an assessment (even by implication) of its value and efficacy. I will only note here, whatever we make of him and his ministry, MacArthur was a believer in the Lord Jesus. If that much is true, we can make an assessment on the commendation he will receive – the article below will walk you through how we can know what it is and why.
The real value of a post like this one is not how we might assess the ministries of well-known celebrity pastors. Rather, it should help us understand how we can receive the commendation from Jesus: well done, good and faithful servant.

Ashamed to admit it, but I had never seen this until today! I had thought this commendation was reserved for others…. The persecuted who persevered…. The sacrificial pastors and missionaries …..
So this post was particularly welcome, thanks.
