Jesus’ resurrection isn’t just history; it’s the blueprint for our future. Because He lives, we have the certain hope of an eternity with him – not as disembodied spirits, but in real, physical bodies on a renewed Earth. Here’s why this promise of a tangible, physical, eternal future is such incredible news:
Life Beyond Death
Death feels like a thief, but for those in Christ, it doesn’t have the final word. Paul reminds us in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 that Jesus’ resurrection guarantees ours. Those who’ve died in Christ will rise again to live with Him.
Imagine being reunited with loved ones – not just spiritually, but in glorified, physical bodies. Better yet, imagine a world where the brokenness of sin is wiped away. Every frustration, every heartbreak of this current life will be replaced with perfect, unending joy.
The fact that Jesus was raised from the dead is proof that we’ll enjoy life to its fullest – physically, bodily, eternally – with Him.
A Future That’s Tangible
Forget the cartoons of floating on clouds, strumming harps for eternity. Our future isn’t ethereal – it’s gloriously physical. Just as Jesus rose in a real, physical body, we will too. We’ll walk, eat, laugh and all the rest, enjoying the New Earth as it was always meant to be.
This Earth, renewed and restored, will be filled with goodness untainted by sin. The beauty we see now is just a foretaste of what’s to come. And best of all, Jesus will dwell with us. We’ll enjoy everything alongside Him.
He’ll enjoy us enjoying those things, and he’ll delight in our joy as we delight in them and in him.
Joy Without End – Forever With The Lord
The promise of eternity with Christ means we’ll have forever to explore and enjoy all the good gifts he has prepared for us. And at the centre of it all? Him.
Our greatest joy will be Jesus himself. He is the source of everything good, and he’ll be there to share in our joy. This isn’t a distant, detached saviour – it’s the one who knows us intimately, who went to the cross so he can spend eternity with us, who is himself looking forward to being there with us and who will enjoy us as we enjoy him.
We’ll always be with the Lord – physically, eternally, in a future filled with endless joy.
Future Hope – Eternal Joy
Easter doesn’t just look back at what Jesus accomplished; it looks forward to the future he’s secured. A real, physical future with him. Life to the fullest. Joy that never fades.
So, let’s celebrate the resurrection (not just at Easter, but every Sunday) and let’s encourage one another with these words: We will always be with the Lord (1 Thessalonians 4:17).
