There is no such thing as private (or online) communion

The question of private communion periodically rears its head. It made a lot of headway during the lockdown period when Covid-19 was rampant. As folks were unable to gather, what about the means of grace? Communion, some averred, should surely be taken privately as we are able.

I wrote the below post during the lockdown. It addresses the question of private communion directly. The argument it makes doesn’t only apply to covid lockdowns, the case made is biblical and holds for in the ordinary run of life. The question of private communion continue to come up and this one makes the case for why we ought not to do it.
