Several years ago, I was asked to write a short book for a series of hub books. Unfortunately, the series – which I thought was really quite good (particularly Progress by Adrian Reynolds among a number of other really quite decent books) – was shelved before my manuscript made it to print. I am led to believe that mine was not the only one that was shelved, so I don’t think I was the one who broke it!
I was chatting recently with someone who had seen the early manuscript and gave some insight on it. They suggested it might be worth putting out as a series of blog posts rather than never letting it see the light of day. As there is no time like the present – and I know I’m going to be away a little in the near future – I decided to get onto serialising it and turning it into a set of blog posts.
So, starting tomorrow, I will release the book in daily instalments, Mondays to Fridays, for the next month. My usual weekly podcast will still post on Saturdays and my Snippets from the Interweb blog roundup will still go out each Sunday. But Monday to Friday will be the next instalment of my book until, at the end of this month, I will post a series of links so you can follow the full book through from start to finish.
The working title of the book – which I never got round to think of anything better – was The Teeth of our Exertions. It comes from a quote by C.H. Spurgeon and I explain in the book introduction its relevance. My hope as you read through the book is that we will recover something of Spurgeon’s vision for reaching the lost, we will understand the urgency of the task and we will get to grips with who we need to reach, why we haven’t yet reached them and to think through some of the joys as well as the issues associated with going to them.
Anyway, I hope it blesses you. I trust it is useful as you think about issues of mission, evangelism and particularly reaching the unreached of our country – the poor and marginalised – whom the Lord Jesus loves and for whom he has a particular heart.
